Family Assistance Specialist (FAS)

What is a Family Assistance Specialist?

Family Assistance Specialist  (FASs) are designed to assist the Families of military service members
during peacetime and during training or mobilization.  A (FAS) helps all branches of the military
(Air Guard, Army Guard, Active Duty Army, Air Force, Coast Guard, Marines, Navy and all
Reserve Components).

A Family Assistance Specialist provides a "one-stop shopping" resource to help Family members cope
with any issue they encounter as a military dependant.

Who is eligible to receive services through an Family Assistance Specialist?

All military members and their Families are eligible to receive assistance. No military personnel or
his/her family should be turned away from a Family Assistance Specialist regardless of branch affiliation.

What information can the Family Assistance Specialist provide?

Basic services provided by a Family Assistance Specialist can be expected to include the following,
regardless of location:

·         ID Cards/DEERS

·         TRICARE/TRICARE Dental

·         Emergency Financial Assistance

·         Legal Assistance

·         Crisis Intervention Information, Referral, Follow-Up and Outreach

·         Community Information and Referral
