Everyone knows how important a college degree is today. The Army National Guard offers a variety of ways to help pay for college. For their dedication and continued service, Army National Guard soldiers can earn up to $19,000 to apply toward their higher education. Under the Montgomery G. I. Bill: The Guard will pay you approximately $255 a month in tuition reimbursement to qualifying soldiers. Army National Guard Education Services provides a wide spectrum of educational information and testing to soldiers and spouses. The ARNG Education Center, at Papago Park Military Reservation, Phoenix, has an extensive library of college and university information, distance learning information, degree completion information, and a self-help study center. Additionally the Education Center provides testing services from the General Education Diploma through Law College and Graduate College tests. During their 8 weeks of Basic Training recruits are taught basic army skills and to disassemble, assemble, and fire weapons and learn how to handle grenades, machine guns, and mines. Toward the end of Basic Training, Guard members put their practical knowledge to test in the field. Working like a well-oiled machine, they practice map reading, night maneuvers, first aid, and other newly acquired skills. This training assures, that even though the citizen-soldiers of the Army National Guard spend most of their time as citizens, the soldier inside each of them is a polished and professional. After Basic Training, Army Guard members can begin to receive training complementary to their fields of study. Through our Advanced Individual Training Courses, over 400 specialties are taught to Guard members. Its knowledge that serves them more than just one week-end a month. For many, its the kind of modern, technical skill thats the key to promising positions in the private sector. More importantly, they can attend college full time while satisfying their Army Guard commitment. Imagine how valuable someone would be to a prospective employer, if he or she possessed any one of the skills listed below. Here is a small sample of the hundreds of jobs you can train for in the National Guard: Electrical Skills: Aircraft Electronics, Meteorological Equipment Specialist, Electronic Instrument troubleshooting. Medical Skills: Clinical Specialist, Eye, Ear, Nose & Throat Specialist, Nurses Aid. Administrative Skills: Personnel Specialist, Information Specialist, Medical Records Specialist.
