The Arizonans who serve part-time in the Guard may appear to be regular citizens, but their physical condition is anything but average. Each Guard member gets conditioned like an infantryman at one of the U. S. Armys Basic Training Centers. For eight weeks, young minds and bodies are honed into readiness. Through close-order drills and exercises, these Guard members reflexes gain speed...their discipline builds...and their strength multiplies. With this growth in ability comes the confidence to tackle our countrys most challenging emergencies, along with the skills necessary to defend peace. After training Guard Members are required to maintain a level of physical fitness in accordance with Army standards. Medical checks and fitness tests are given on a regular basis.
