Commander's Comments

Greetings from the south side of Bagram. The past month has been pretty busy for us out here. Since taking over the mission, we have flown over 350 hours on our aircraft in support of Operation Enduring Freedom VIII. We have all made the adjustment to life here and our operations are starting to run smoothly. Our remote team of four crews who are stationed out at Jalalabad are doing well. The mission out of Bagram often gives us a chance to meet with our Jalalabad crews and make sure everything is going well out there.

One of the highlights was a recent visit by Mrs. Karen Schaler from ABC 15 news from Phoenix, where our soldiers were able to get some comments on the news and were also able to get messages back to their families. I’m sure all of the families back in Arizona appreciated the opportunity to see a glimpse of what we do here. Another big highlight was a visit by the Arizona Governor, Janet Napolitano. She has been a big supporter of the soldiers in this unit and I am sure that we are all grateful for her support. While here, the Governor was able to answer soldier’s questions and gave us news on current events in Arizona. She was also able to give us a look into some of the future plans on the horizon for our state. As it is nice for families to receive news from the soldiers on the front lines, it is equally as important for soldiers on the front lines to receive news about home. All of these events have played an important role in increasing the morale of our troops.
